it’s monday, july 21, & moon is in taurus, in the starspace called rohinī until about 9:30 a.m. MDT, then mṛgaśira. taurus is our comfort zone. & the ultimate comfort is happiness, which is also our ultimate goal, our ongoing pursuit as humans, a pursuit that can feel elusive, b/c we often think the source of our happiness exists “out there,” in the material world—in friends & lovers, vacations, cars, clothes, food, in the many-varied pleasures available to us.
aristotle references the greek word eudaimonia, which is the condition of full human flourishing, or living well, as the basis, underlying cause, for happiness, & entails living in alignment with one’s essential nature, which is goodness. happiness is, he said, the “supreme good,” the only good that is desirable for its own sake, an end in itself rather than the means toward another end.
& the good thing about self-flourishing is that it is self-/internally resourced, not transient & limited like the momentary happiness that might come from, say, the best sex or meal ever.
rohinī is a star of attraction, abundance & creativity. what do you want to draw to you, create? mṛgaśira is the star of seeking & gives us the power of fulfillment, as in fulfilling the desire for what we are seeking. &, to repeat myself, what we are ultimately seeking is the state of pure bliss, ultimate happiness. nothing wrong with the temporary fix of sensual pleasures, as long as we don’t think they’re “it,” as long as we aren’t slaves to them.
this asterism is ruled by soma, another name for the moon & also the name of the magical elixir that intoxicated & invigorated the gods, gave them access to their spiritual powers, facilitated a state of bliss. the key to that bliss is not seeking it everywhere, being ADHD, but single-pointedly focusing our mind, as we do in meditation, looking within not without.
then, when you least expect it, the soma just might drop, happiness might spontaneously combust in you, it might “hit [you] like a train on a track,” as florence & the machine put it.
it’s a good day to single- rather than multitask.
it’s the twelfth lunar day (tithi), the twelfth phase of the waning moon, which brings wealth/abundance & is the least conflict-free tithi. it also resonates well with monday & both rohinī & mṛgaśira, forming in both cases siddha yoga, a combination for accomplishment. what do you want to accomplish/achieve/create/experience? focus!
monday is ruled by moon, she of gentle, compassionate, unconditionally loving nature. be your best moony self today.
& that’s your daily bliss! which is a sort of lunar weather report. may it allow you to align with the day’s cosmic energy so you can find & create a little more bliss.
