it’s friday, august 8, & we have a full moon overnight in capricorn, in the starspace called śravana. full moon in capricorn means sun is opposite, in cancer, where the new moon started this lunar month, & means we are at the halfway point, the point where we get to recalibrate, balance the energies of sun & moon. also in the mix: moon is getting an aspect from jupiter, in gemini, & retrograde mercury, who is hanging out with sun in cancer. let’s put the pieces of the full moon puzzle together!
• capricorn is the sign of structure & rationality, cancer of emotions & intuition.
• śravana is the star of deep listening, of listening for the truth, not being biased to hear only what we want to hear. hearing is passive, accidental, involuntary, effortless—if our ears are open, we can’t help hearing. listening is intentional, involves actively paying attention to what we hear (words, sounds) to absorb their meaning, with our intuition, our heart-knowing, not just our intellect.
• śravana is ruled by moon & by lord vishnu. moon is the planet of connection & compassion; the shakti, or power, of this star is samhanana shakti, the power to connect. lord vishnu is the sustainer/supporter/connector of all that is; as vamana avatar his three strides connected all the creatures & all the worlds with the divine.
• retrograde mercury reminds us to listen more, talk less, to not jump to conclusions, to turn inward to heal our stories, work on ourselves.
• moon is all by itself in capricorn & there are no planets in the signs before (sagittarius) & after (aquarius) it. this can intensify feelings of aloneness & isolation. there’s a difference between aloneness & loneliness; there’s a difference between intentional isolation, which gives us an opportunity to turn inward, listen deeply, do our work, & unintentional, which can bring suffering.
• full moon in śravana is the appearance day of lord krishna’s brother, balarama, & is celebrated as raksha bandhan, the day when sisters tie a red string around their brothers’ wrists as a sign of protection, of connection.
• jupiter’s grace on this moon helps us see the big picture, reminds us that being alone doesn’t mean we are unsupported.
śravana is soft & nourishing. how can you use the waning lunar cycle to be more compassionate to yourself & others? how can you use this time to turn inward & heal loneliness, release old emotional stories, connect with those who are always there for you? how can you trust your heart knowing?
wishing you a most nourishing full moon!
& that’s your daily bliss! which is a sort of lunar weather report. may it allow you to align with the day’s cosmic energy so you can find & create a little more bliss.
