it’s monday, march 23, moon is in taurus, in the starspace called kṛttikā for a smidge longer, then rohiṇī, it’ll be the sixth phase of the waxing moon when you read this, & it’s moon’s day.
taurus vibrates with the frequency of happiness & is ruled by venus, who allows us to experience our material, embodied existence through our senses & discover what brings us happiness, what delights us, which noises are pleasant & which not, which sights bring us joy, which tastes light us up, etc.
i don’t want to be a downer, but these are all ephemeral pleasures, tastes of happiness that disappear as quickly as ice cream melts on the tongue.
ultimately we want unconditional happiness, to be happy for no reason, not have to depend on anything or anyone to cause that feeling in us. our senses give us a glimpse, a taste of that ultimate experience, are sort of training wheels.
what makes you happy? what does that feel like in your body? this is the beginning!
kṛttikā is ruled by agni, the fire that cuts (kṛttikā comes from the sanskrit verb that means “to cut”) through the noise (sense of hearing!), torches what rings false, to bring clarity, allows us to see the truth.
rohiṇī is ruled by prajapati, who created all the beings in the universe, including his daughter rohiṇī, with whom he fell in love. whoops! this star is infused with fertility, creativity, growth (rohiṇī means “to grow”), but/& also jealousy.
the nakshatras are considered moon’s wives & moon wanted to spend all his time with rohiṇī, which caused mayhem in the harem—just as prajapati caused a furor among the gods with his incestuous love. to bring harmony to his harem, moon agreed to spend one night with each of his twenty-seven wives, but that didn’t prevent him from still having a favorite, feeling most comfortable with one.
i had a dream once in which a lama i’d studied with told me to be “passively productive,” which felt like a riddle at the time, but i eventually realized meant to allow, not force, creativity & to not cling to its power or result.
enjoy the feeling of your mind, your consciousness, resting in, basking in this comfort zone. allow yourself to creative like all get-out without being attached to what you produce, without calling so much attention to it/yourself that others become jealous.
the sixth lunar day (tithi), the sixth phase of the waxing moon, is ruled by goddess vajreshwari, who supports us in giving form to something, making our dream, our idea tangible, as real & impenetrable as a diamond (vajra = “diamond”). what does that mean for you? what is still in limbo between concept & reality?
monday is ruled by moon, whose greatest happiness comes from bringing happiness to others. how might you bring happiness to others today—with a smile, a phone call, a spontaneous act of kindness?
during my monthlong residential yoga teacher training a thousand years ago, a few of us doing laundry decided to play laundry elves & fold someone else’s laundry. when that person returned to the laundry room & saw all her clothes in neat piles, she was flabbergasted. we all feigned innocence.
it. was. so. much. fun!
how much fun might you have bringing happiness to someone else today?!
& that’s your daily bliss! which is a sort of lunar weather report. may it allow you to align with the day’s cosmic energy so you can find & create a little more bliss.
