what to know so you can align with today’s energy from a vedic (not western/tropical) astrology point of view: it’s wednesday, july 29, & we have a full moon in capricorn, in the starspace called śravaṇa. this full moon is known as guru purnima, the full moon celebrating the guru, our teachers, & it’s a once-in-twelve-year event b/c jupiter, the guru himself, is exalted—yes!
the full moon in capricorn means sun is opposite, in cancer, masculine sun putting the spotlight on feminine moon. full moon marks the halfway point in moon’s journey around the zodiac. if you initiated something on the new moon two weeks ago, now’s the time to add or subtract to fully realize it, to make adjustments so you can bring it home.
sun & jupiter (whose sanskrit name is guru!) are both at exactly the exact degree in the starspace called puṣya, which means that jupiter is combust, hidden by & getting purified by sun’s rays, invisible to us. puṣya, the star of nourishment, is ruled by brihaspati, guru (!) to the gods, the one who nourished the gods with wisdom.
so while jupiter is shining his light on moon, we may feel disconnected from our beliefs & enthusiasms. our faith/trust in the divine, access to our spiritual self, may be challenged.
also in the mix: saturn retrograde in pisces, ruled by jupiter, & also being aspected by jupiter. pisces is where, if we are lucky, if jupiter blesses us, we connect to the divine, to the ineffable, to god, to our godly essence/nature. pisces is also where we can be deluded spiritually. saturn is bringing a reality check about our beliefs.
śravaṇa is the star of deep listening, of getting quiet enough, of quieting our mind enough, to receive direct downloads from the divine. but/& those downloads can be only received by & deciphered by our heart, they come through trusting our intuition not trying to figure it out with our intellect.
as wookiefoot sings, “to find your heart you got to lose your mind.”
guru purnima invites us to reflect on our growth over the past year & to show gratitude for all the teachers who have nourished our growth. our first teachers were our parents & the teachers/mentors/advisors kept on coming, sometimes in the form of events or situations. everyone & everything is a learning moment, an opportunity for growth, if we are awake to it.
guru is the one who dispels the darkness, our ignorance, brings the light, wisdom.
my teachers taught me that guru & god are one, b/c the guru takes us to god. & that the more grateful we are to our teachers, the more we will be blessed, graced with wisdom.
who are your gurus? what have they taught you?
is your spirituality an idea or an embodiment? is it performative or felt?
are your beliefs connected to or disconnected from your life—that is, do you just talk the good talk or do you walk your talk?
what truth does your innermost heart, your innermost knowing, your intuition want to reveal?
wishing you a most reflective full moon!
or, as leonard cohen said, “may the blessings find you in your solitude”!
