it’s friday, april 4, & moon is in gemini, in the starspace called ardra. while in western/tropical astrology gemini is symbolized by twins, in vedic/sidereal astrology it is represented by a male & female couple, the divine masculine & divine feminine, shiva & shakti, the active & receptive, the left/analytical hemisphere of the brain & the right/creative half. wholeness comes from embracing all of us, our masc & fem qualities/gifts, & this longing for wholeness is the reason we want to be in partnership (& the reason geminis especially do). there is even a form of shiva, called ardhanarishvara*, that is a mashup of, a composite of, shiva & parvati (his consort). the dance of life is the ongoing dance between, the interdependence of, these two energies—shiva’s stillness & shakti’s flow, shiva’s possibility & shakti’s manifestation. without shakti nothing would happen, without shiva shakti wouldn’t have anything to do! how are you honoring & harmonizing the masc & fem in you?
ardra is, speaking of shiva, ruled by rudra, god of storms & a primal & especially fierce form of the lord. “rudra” can be translated as “the howler,” as in the noise of thunder & lightning that accompanies fierce storms, as in “it’s my party & i get to cry—howl!—if i want to.” the english word “rude” is related: think wild & untamed, like a storm; think chaos & destruction. just as shiva is a transformative force, destroys so something new can be born & storms cleanse the earth & bring fresh growth, so tears allow us to purge & then feel like the sun coming out after it rains. go ahead & howl today, scream into a pillow if you need to, transform your heart out.
it’s the seventh lunar day (tithi), the seventh phase of the waxing moon, till almost 9 a.m. MDT, then the eighth. the seventh supports us in staying on our path, humbling us if necessary. the eighth is kind of the ardhanarishvara phase of the moon, half & half, half dark & half light, & supports us in embracing both our darkness & our light, understanding that the one informs the other, just as shiva & shakti do.
friday is infused with the energy of venus, planet of art & beauty, love & nature. friday is always a good day to feed your senses alone or in company.
