“We Must Love One Another or Die”

it’s friday, april 3, the moon is in libra, in the starspace called swātī, it’s the second phase of the waning moon & venus’ day.

libra is all relationships all the time, which—whether business, romantic, platonic or familial (except for parent-child), whether short- or long-term—are transactional, meaning that each person gives & each person receives.

libra is represented by a scale, the kind of scale, way back when, merchants weighed out goods & payment for them until the pans are balanced.

sooooo, are your relationship scales balanced, are you getting as good as you’re giving? are you giving as good as you’re getting?

if not, could it be b/c you’re not showing up honestly, vulnerably, b/c maybe you’re afraid to be fully seen, own your needs & desires?

we can’t love, be truly in relationship, if we’re wearing a mask, hiding our true self. & as auden wrote in his poem “september 1, 1939,” on the eve of WWII, “we must love one another or die.”

or, as jimi hendrix said, “when the power of love overcomes the love of power, the world will know peace.” amen!

swātī is ruled by vayu, swift god of the wind, who is described in the vedas as “the giver of stormy inspiration & motivation.” vayu bestowed on his son hanuman incredible speed, strength & the ability to fly (like the wind). this nakshatra can inspire us to spread ourselves too thinly, follow every thought, go in too many directions. the key is to harness our prana, our inner winds, our precious life force on a goal, to what we are truly devoted to. when hanuman did, he discovered his superpower of flight & was able to soar over the ocean to rescue sita from the demon ravana.

what superpower might you discover you have if you focus, focus, focus?

the second lunar day (tithi), the second phase of the waning moon, is ruled by goddess bhagamalini, whose name means “garlanded with luck” or “garlanded with fame.” this tithi has the quality of pride, as in taking pride in the spark of desire we became aware of yesterday & grounding it so others can take notice, so it can spread far & wide & bring us fame.

this tithi resonates well with windy swātī, who helps us spread our word/message/project, & with friday (venus’ day) in the mix, we get a siddha yoga, a combo for accomplishment. what do you want to accomplish today?

friday invites us into the energy of venus, who represents our earthly existence & also rules libra, so it’s a double-good day to double-down on being fully human & IN-joying our embodied existence—to do what we love with the ones we love, & with venus currently in aśvinī, the sparks of desire (to love, to make art, to cook up a storm) may be flying fast & furiously.

& that’s your daily bliss! which is a sort of lunar weather report. may it allow you to align with the day’s cosmic energy so you can find & create a little more bliss.
