it’s thursday, october 2, & moon is in capricorn, in the starspace called śravaṇa. capricorn vibrates with the frequency of getting serious about our duties & responsibilities, of taking care of the business of our lives, which may mean our business/career. ruling planet saturn concentrates, contracts, focuses our attention, puts our nose to the grindstone, encourages us to work hard. he reminds us that we aren’t going to be here forever, that we are like leaves, which, in autumn, dry up, fall to the earth. but don’t let that depress you—let it move & shake you to action.
śravaṇa derives from the sanskrit verb that means “to listen” & brings a lesson about listening less to the voices of the people around us & more to our heart, our inner voice.
“when you have a dream, it doesn’t often come at you screaming in your face, ‘this is who you are, this is what you must be for the rest of your life.’ sometimes a dream almost whispers. & i’ve always said to my kids, the hardest thing to listen to—your instincts, your human personal intuition—always whispers; it never shouts. very hard to hear. so you have to every day of your lives be ready to hear what whispers in your ear; it very rarely shouts. & if you can listen to the whisper, & if it tickles your heart, & it’s something you think you want to do for the rest of your life, then that is going to be what you do for the rest of your life, & we will benefit from everything you do.”—steven spielberg
it’s the eleventh lunar day (tithi), the eleventh phase of the waxing moon, which is associated with spiritual practices like meditation, which is “just” deep listening, deep connection to your innermost, most-innermost voice/self. meditation is a practice of stillness, a process. it’s cumulative—you don’t just sit down on your cushion the first time & drop so deeply in you don’t even hear your timer go off. but inevitably, eventually, the magic does arise.
take a seat. commit to it. be still. who knows what might happen—if not today, then tomorrow or the tomorrow after tomorrow.
thursday is ruled by jupiter, who blesses us with grace, the counterpart to saturn’s effort.
“it is not by your effort alone. grace flows always. you only have to keep your cup upright to receive it.”—anandamayi ma
& that’s your daily bliss! which is a sort of lunar weather report. may it allow you to align with the day’s cosmic energy so you can find & create a little more bliss.
