it’s wednesday, january 7, & moon is in leo, in the starspace called pūrvaphālgunī. leo is the sign of the king, of leadership, of our sovereignty regardless of gender or gender identification. leo is willing to take center stage, be seen & heard, & by doing so set an example for others to be seen & heard, to shine brightly & brilliantly.
leo is opposite aquarius, the sign of humanity, of multitudes. leaders rise up b/c they have a vision that resonates with masses of people. the highest expression of leo is to be a “king” in service to humanity, not in service to their own ego, to be humble rather than prideful.
what’s your vision & how do you express it—humbly or egotistically? do you stand in full sovereignty of your life?
pūrvaphālgunī is ruled by bhaga, the god of delight, & by venus (so many rulers, so little time!). venus’ sanskrit name is shukra, which is also the name for the male reproductive fluid. (can you see where i’m going?) this nakshatra invites us to delight in the art of love & love of the arts, among other earthly pleasures. even rulers get a day off, take time for R & R.
“work, love & play are the great balance wheels of man’s being.”—orison swett marden
it’s the fifth lunar day (tithi), the fifth phase of the waning moon, which supports us with the creative strength to turn something negative into a positive, give form to something formless, inchoate. it can also make us so buzzy with creativity that we don’t know where to focus our energy. however, this tithi + pūrva p + wednesday is an auspicious threesome that helps us extract the juiciest juice from our activities so we can experience inner joy—yesssss!
wednesday is ruled by mercury, planet of intellectual discrimination & communication, who reminds us to be discriminating when we’re about to open our mouth or compose an email or text, to ask ourselves:
• is it true?
• is it necessary?
• is it beneficial?
• am i saying it with loving-kindness?
• is this the right time?
in the wholesome/right speech section of the virtue/morality section of the fourth noble truth (the eightfold path; yes, i’m on a noble truths roll this week!), the buddha says, “& what is right speech? abstaining from lying, from divisive speech, from abusive speech & from idle chatter: this is called right speech (sammā vācā)?”
& that’s your daily bliss! which is a sort of lunar weather report. may it allow you to align with the day’s cosmic energy so you can find & create a little more bliss.
