it’s monday, december 22, & i’m back & powered up, hooked back into the grid! here in boulder, co, we had some kuh-razy wind storms for a few days & our power company, excel, which, incomprehensibly, has still not buried power lines despite the dry & windy conditions (&, i have to say, their negligence) here causing a disastrous fire a few years ago, pulled the plug proactively on us lest the ridiculously warm temps in combo with winds that were sending sheets of metal flying incited another catastrophic conflagration. i’m glad to report that boulder did not sustain any fires, but some people were stupid enough to burn wood in fireplaces (wtf?) to stay warm (come on, people, it was los angeles cold, not boulder cold), wasting precious fire department resources. oi!

anyhoo, we had a dark (i.e., new) moon on friday, in sagittarius, in the starspace called mūla, which is the darkest part of the galaxy & is ruled by the dark goddess herself.

besides sun & moon in mūla, mars was & is also still there, & combust (too close to the sun), & is going to be combust—wait for it—until march 27. mars is our courage & initiative & discipline & when he’s combust he can get even more hotted up than he already is.

he can at the low end of the spectrum, become irritated, frustrated, volatile. which see all the acts of violence of late (mars has been combust since november 7), the abuses of power: kill parents! kill MIT professors! sieze venezuelan tankers & try to make a case for war with a country that does not traffic fentanyl (which china & mexico do) & is thus not responsible for the nearly 50,000 deaths in the US last year from that deadly drug, but does have vast oil reserves that big US business wants.

at the high end of the spectrum mars can perform incredible acts of bravery, like ahmed al-ahmed, who singlehandedly, & without concern for himself, disarmed one of the bondi beach shooters, or like the anonymous tipster who led the FBI to the brown U & MIT shooter.

b/c of the ongoing divisiveness being instilled in us (if we are distracted by fighting each other, seeing otherness, the government can, & will, walk all over us, take away our rights, tell us it’s for our own good, treat us like babies), it’s important to note that while the victims at the hanukkah celebration were largely jewish, ahmed was syrian. we are not at war with each other!

heads up if you are ruled by mars, i.e., aries or scorpio rising—you are likely to feel this mars combustion very personally, so stay aware, keep checking in with yourself.

not only that, sun, venus & mars are going to be kissing close in sag until january 12.

& winter solstice, the darkest, longest night of the year, was yesterday. which means, the light is returning (even if it doesn’t feel that way during these dark times, but/& doesn’t ahmed represent light?!)—& jupiter, sag’s ruler, is opposite, in gemini, shining hope & high-mindedness back at it.

mūla means “root,” “center,” “innermost core” & sits smack-dab in the middle of our galactic center, the root of our existence, the black hole that gave birth to our universe (altho scientists now think it was born of a bounce, not a bang🤷‍♀️).

mūla is symbolized by a bunch of tied-up roots & is ruled by niritti, goddess of chaos & primordial form of kali, dark goddess of endings/transformations. niritti is the daughter of adharma (unrighteousness) & himsa (violence) & the mother of mrityu (death) & bhaya (fear). she is also associated with alakshmi, the opposite of lakshmi, who represents all the juicy stuff—beauty, wealth, abundance.

need i say more?

ok, i will. …

sagittarius vibrates with the frequency of our beliefs, the beliefs that create a container for our lives, for our individual/unique universes. our beliefs shape how we see the world. if we don’t like what we’re seeing, maybe we need to use our geminian curiosity & discriminating intelligence to examine our belief systems &, um, uproot them?

so we get to dive into the core of our existence, existential & material, explore our dark side, tap into our inner dark goddess. we get to address our core beliefs around our power & our suffering/our disempowerment, around our relationships. we get to, like niritti/kali, take no prisoners, fiercely yank out by the roots what no longer serves, who no longer serves.

this waxing cycle going into the new year is governed by the issues associated with whichever house sagittarius rules for you. for me, for example, it’s my fifth house—creativity (✍🏻), higher learning (🙏), romance (🤞), children (not so much!). this is why jyotish, knowing our chart & understanding the transits, is important—it allows us to align better with the cosmic energy at play, helps us focus our precious faculties of attention & intention, go high rather than low.

what gets to get transformed? what gets to end? what gets to get composted/recycled like yard waste into something new? what do you envision for the new year? how can you hold yourself & all that with compassion, hew toward the light?

btw: tomorrow is a travel day—heading to the mountains to try to ski (ugh, it is toooo warm, there is not much snow!)—so i’ll be back on wednesday. stay safe out there! be the bounce you want to see in the world!

& that’s your daily bliss! which is a sort of lunar weather report. may it allow you to align with the day’s cosmic energy so you can find & create a little more bliss.
