it’s wednesday, march 20, & moon is in cancer, in the starspace called pushya until late morning, then ashlesha. cancer vibrates with the frequency of the divine feminine, whose shakti, creative force, is love, the love of a mother. “all beings have that in common: every creature has a mother & every being came out of a woman,” wrote jivamukti teacher martyna dharmina febre on international women’s day. there’s a buddhist meditation in which you envision that at some point in our soul’s migration from body to body we have all been one another’s mothers. in this way we recognize our sameness & deepen our compassion, our ability to mother, hold space for one another. regardless of gender or whether we’ve never been a mother-mother, we all have the capacity to mother.

pushya (see yesterday’s post for more) is, like a mother, the ur-nourisher. ashlesha is the ur-entwiner, calls in serpent energy, highlighting who & what we have nourished & have entwined ourselves around. we get to ask ourselves whether the people in our lives, the ideas & emotions enlivening our minds & hearts, the situations we are immersed in & are attached to are serving our highest expression of self, are upleveling or downleveling us. we can use this serpent energy to slither into the nooks & crannies of our psyches, into the dark places we daren’t go, & by so doing extract the truth, which is the seed of wisdom.

it’s the eleventh lunar day (tithi), the eleventh phase of the waxing moon, yes, still, which gives us still more time to get with, to reimmerse in, our spiritual practices even if we’ve fallen off the wagon. practices take practice, consistent, daily practice. they don’t yield results immediately—as if! & we might even say that the purpose is the practice itself.

“submit to a daily practice. your loyalty to that is a ring at the door. keep knocking, & the joy inside will eventually open a window & look out to see who’s there.”—rumi

wednesday is ruled by mercury, who gives us discriminating intelligence, the curiosity to investigate, take in information, think about it & share the results of our pondering, of using our intellectual powers. everyone should have “a right to think what he likes, & say what he thinks,” said spinoza. what do you think?

& that’s your daily bliss! which is a sort of lunar weather report. may it allow you to align with the day’s cosmic energy so you can find & create a little more bliss.
