it’s tuesday, september 12, & moon moves from cancer into leo midday & simultaneously from the starspace called ashlesha into magha. while cancer vibrates with the frequency of the divine feminine, of nurturing & unconditional love, leo vibrates with the frequency of the divine masculine, of providing & protecting. ashlesha ends where cancer does, magha begins where leo does. this is how the transition between water (cancer) & fire (leo) signs rolls. it’s called a gandanta & means there is no starry space supporting & transporting moon from one sign to the next, that there is a starry gap. which means our inner moon, our emotional body, our consciousness, won’t feel supported either, so we get to be, um, mindful about the gap, especially b/c moon is getting darker & darker, waning waning waning. gandanta zones bring up karma that needs to be unknotted (gandanta = “knot”), & with relationshipy venus also in emotional cancer in ashlesha, asterism of our attachments, knotty relationship issues may be wreaking emotional havoc with us. so do let’s turn some of cancer’s unconditional love toward ourselves, lie low while moon traverses the gandanta, do some self-care if possible.
ashlesha (see yesterday’s post for more) brings serpent/snake energy, both the toxicity & the wisdom, & invites us to extract the lessons we are meant to learn from our unhealthy attachments & move on, shed them like a snake does its skin. doing so allows us to be an example, embrace our leadership qualities, step into our greatness, which is what magha invites us to do. the bhagavad gita reminds us that we lead best by example, not by coercion, that “whatever action is performed by a great man, common men follow in his footsteps, and whatever standards he sets by exemplary acts, all the world pursues.” (3.20-21)
it’s the thirteenth lunar day, the thirteenth phase of the waning moon, which is related to kamadeva, god of love & desire. to bring more of that into your life, you might chant his gayatri mantra: om kamadeva vidmahe/pushpa banaya dhimahi/tanno ananga prachodayat (om let me meditate on the god of love, who is the forest of flowers & bestows on me the power of intellect to illuminate my mind).
tuesday is ruled by mars, who gives us the courage & prowess to overcome our struggles, & given the planetary energy right now, they may be myriad, may be deeply psychological. the good news is that victory entails transformation—yay! & don’t worry—you’re not alone!
