it’s thursday, may 11, & moon is in capricorn, in the starspace called shravana. capricorn vibrates with the frequency of getting serious about our lives b/c we realize we don’t have forever. capricorn time is time to put on our big girl panties or big boy briefs! if not now, when? capricorn gives us discipline & perseverance, the ability to commit & focus. FOCUS = follow one course until successful. (thanks to my friend & colleague jeff poole for turning that word into a capricornian acronym, which of course, he, being a capricorn, would do!) what area of your life could use more focus? where are you not committed enough to achieve your goals?
shravana brings a lesson about listening, about tuning our outer ears to listen acutely in order to tune our inner ears to listen just as, if not more than, acutely. ancient wisdom was traditionally passed down orally—& not just b/c writing wasn’t yet a thing. youngsters were taught to chant the vedas before they could read. the buddha emphasized the importance of listening in his early sermons. a year after the buddha’s death, ananda, a close disciple, gathered 500 monks together & recited all of the buddha’s teachings from memory (!), starting each one with the words evaṁ mayā śrūtaṁ, “thus did I hear.” it’s a good day to get really quiet & listen. what can you hear?
it’s the seventh lunar day, the seventh phase of the waning moon, which is related to indra, who seesawed between being a righteous king of the gods & being full of self-righteousness, self-importance, thinking he was all that, that he was the source of his power. but we know better, right? we are humble enough to know that our power, our gifts, come from the divine, right?
thursday is ruled by jupiter, who brings us wisdom sources, like teachers, guides, gurus, mentors, advisors—those, basically, who know—so we can get clarity, become unconfused about who we are & what we are doing here.
“being confused, you look to those who say they know; but b/c you are confused, your choice of a guide will also be confused.”—krishnamurti
with jupiter & rahu (whose name really ought to be “confusion”!) moving closer & closer toward each other, we get to be vigilant about who we are taking advice from, not rushing to smack down until we’ve done due diligence.
& that’s your daily bliss! which is a sort of lunar weather report. may it allow you to align with the day’s cosmic energy so you can find & create a little more bliss.
