it’s tuesday, september 5, & moon is in taurus, in the starspace called krittika. taurus vibrates with the frequency of contentment, of being happy for no reason, which is known as santosha or sukha. santosha is the state of needing nothing, not needing anything from “out there” to satisfy, but finding blissful satisfaction from within. the yoga sutras tell us that the realization of santosha brings unparalled happiness (YS 2.42), & that like all things yoga it’s a practice—the more we practice feeling content, cultivating it & nurturing it by finding it in a moment here, a moment there, not in feeling the need to feed one desire after another, thinking that the fulfillment of that desire is going to do it for us, the more contentment we are capable of feeling, the less we need external things or people to bring on that feeling, the more we self-resource rather than out-resource it. in his book on the yoga sutra, scholar-practitioner edwin bryant says:
“whatever happiness there may be in enjoyment in this world, & whatever greater happiness there may be in the celestial world, they do not amount to one-sixteenth of the happiness attained from the cessation of desire.”
krittika is ruled by agni, primordial fire, & gives us the power to purify, to extract the positive from the negative the way heat separates out impurities from gold when it is brought to the melting point. agni is also the fire that cooks our food, & thus nourishes. this asterism brings a message about the nourishment that results when we burn off, destroy our impurities, anything that prevents us from being our highest expression of self. what are you ready to toss into the sacred fire today?
it’s the seventh lunar day, the seventh phase of the waning moon, which is related to indra & supports us in embracing the higher rather than the lower expression of indra—being fully in our power & using it for the greater good, not to bloat our ego or fill our coffers with riches the way, say, government “servants” who serve their own interests rather than the people’s are wont to do.
tuesday is ruled by mars, our inner action hero. it’s a good day to fight a good fight, one with our inner demons, like our limiting beliefs & negative tendencies. got some?
& that’s your daily bliss! which is a sort of lunar weather report. may it allow you to align with the day’s cosmic energy so you can find & create a little more bliss.
